Compounding the words “cuisine” and “art”, the brand name “Cuisinart” was created. It is quite a suitable name for the array of kitchen appliances and gadgets designed to make preparing your food and drink easier and more rapidly, and at the same time improve their flavor and aroma, not to mention keeping their minerals, vitamins, and other nutrients intact.
Carl Sontheimer founded Cuisinart in 1971. In cooperation with Robot-Coupe, a French enterprise, he introduced America’s first domestic food processor under the brand name Cuisinart. Its design was actually a duplicate of the Magimix 1800 of Robot-Coupe which was then sold in France and later in the United Kingdom. Two famous giants in the food industry, Julia Child and James Beard, endorsed the Cuisinart food processor early on.
Sontheimer later severed relations with the French company, and expanded to manufacture not only food processors but a long list of other kitchen tools —bakeware, blenders, brick ovens, coffeemakers, cookware, countertop cooking appliances, frozen yogurt and ice cream makers, hand mixers, microwave ovens, pizza ovens, stand mixers, toasters and toaster oven broilers, waffle makers, and various other specialty products.
Today, the Cuisinart trademark belongs to Conair Corporation, which acquired it in 1989. In spite of the ownership change, Cuisinart is still popular because the products sporting its name are known for their quality.
The Cuisinart DCC-1200 Brew Central Coffeemaker is among the popular machines from Cuisinart. Having a boxy design with no trims and made of stainless steel, the Coffee Maker is a plain- and simple-looking device. It has quite a retro look, sporting analog dials and even a toggle switch. Backing up its tough look is its sturdy feel. The machine is no thin or flimsy plastic that can be pressed even with a light touch.
The water filter that removes chemicals such as calcium and chlorine, boiler that heats water for brewing, showerhead that pours the heated water over the coffee grounds, and heating plate that keeps brewed coffee warm all contribute to making your cups of coffee the best you’ve ever tasted.
Maintenance is easy as the machine is equipped with a lamp that comes alive if it needs to be decalcified. All you need to do is pour a mixture of vinegar and water into the reservoir and run the machine. Just remember to rinse it afterwards by running fresh water through it two or three times.
